Taxi driver charged with human trafficking

A Vienna taxi driver was charged yesterday evening (Mon) with human trafficking for trying to take an Albanian man from Maribor, Slovenia, to Vienna, police said.

A police patrol stopped the driver, 57, on the Pyhrn motorway (A9) near Gersdorf-Gralla in Styria’s Leibnitz district at 9:40pm. They found the Albanian man, 26, hiding inside the taxi.

He told police the driver had picked him up in Maribor to take him to Vienna. The Albanian said his father had given him the driver’s telephone number before he illegally made his way from Albania to Slovenia.

The Albanian was fined before police deported him back to Slovenia.
