Suffocated man was about to be evicted
A 27-year-old man who suffocated to death after burning charcoal in an outdoor grill to warm his apartment in Villach, Carinthia, was about to be evicted, police said today (Mon).
Police found the man's body in the freezing apartment, where he had been living alone, after breaking down his door to serve an eviction notice for non-payment of rent.
The supply of electricity to the apartment had been cut off for non-payment of bills for some time.
Police said the man had died from inhalation of carbon monoxide from the burning of charcoal.
