Toddler dies from meningitis

A three-year-old girl who was initially thought to have the flu died at home from meningitis before she could be taken to hospital in Styria’s Hartberg district.

District head Max Wiesenhofer said today (Fri) the girl had had flu symptoms but her condition had suddenly worsened and she died at home on Wednesday this week.

He added doctors were giving antibiotics to members of the girl’s family and others who had been in contact with her as a prophylactic measure.
