Second raid on Graz flea market turns up more illegal weapons

Weapons have been found at a Graz flea market again in the second police raid on the market in a week.

The raid on the market in Wienerstraße in the Styrian capital yesterday (Sun) revealed four steel clubs, two electric-shock devices disguised as mobile-telephones and a pair of brass knuckles were on sale at a stand belonging to a 26-year-old man from Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Police said the man would be charged with possession and importation of illegal weapons.

They added they had decided to strengthen checks at flea markets following the arrest of a 33-year-old Hungarian last week who was caught selling banned weapons.

The police said last Friday they had found 57 prohibited items, including eight steel clubs, 30 sets of brass knuckles and 19 electric-shock devices disguised as mobile-telephones or flashlights, and smuggled cigarettes when they raided his stand and then closed it.

Police said the man would be charged with possession of prohibited weapons and they would inform customs about the cigarettes.
