Three injured on Vorarlberg slopes

A 46-year-old woman and two children were seriously injured on Vorarlberg slopes this weekend.

Police said a Dutch woman broke her leg as she sledged on a night piste in St. Gallenkirch im Montafon on Saturday while a nine-year-old girl injured her chest as she fell while skiing at Silvretta Nova near Montafon.

A six-year-old German boy suffered spinal injuries when he was hit by an unidentified snowboarder from behind at the Montafon-Hochjoch skiing area on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Austrian Committee for Traffic Safety (KfV) said it expected around 56,000 of the nine to ten million people skiing or snowboarding on Austrian slopes this winter to end up in hospital. It said 58,100 people had been severely injured during the last winter season.
