Hikers save pal after avalanche

Three hikers rescued their pal when they dug him out of an avalanche and gave him first aid in Tyrol’s Stubai Alps today (Tues).

Police said the trio, thought to be from the Czech Republic, had dug themselves out after being trapped under snow when the avalanche struck at 11am near the Schrankogel Group of peaks and then dug their friend out and began reviving him.

Emergency medics sent on a rescue helicopter managed to stabilise the man and take him to Innsbruck Clinic.
