Fourth freezing death

By David Rogers

A Lower Austrian inn landlord froze to death yesterday (Mon) - the fourth death by freezing in as many days in Austria.

Police in Grafenwörth in Tulln district said the man, 61, fell while walking home the previous night. His body, which was dressed in light clothes according to police,  was found yesterday morning.

The news comes after three people froze to death over the weekend as they walked home in freezing temperatures which plummeted to below minus 20 degrees Celsius in many areas.

A 59-year old man was found frozen in a field by a hunter on Sunday morning near Werfen in Salzburg’s Pongau, a 19-year-old from Oberhaag in Leibnitz district in Styria died after apparently collapsing and freezing to death as he walked from a disco in the early hours of Sunday morning, and a 43-year-old plumber froze to death on Friday night near Mühldorf in Styria’s Feldbach district as he tried to walk 1.5 kilometres home after a night out.
