Siemens gets €25mn Vienna underground contract

By Lisa Chapman

Siemens Austria has sealed a 25-million-Euro underground security systems deal with Vienna public transport agency Wiener Linien.

The company said yesterday (Weds) the contract is for systems for the fourth stage of expansion of the city’s underground network.

The contract is the company’s latest with Wiener Linien and comes after the agency announced in September it had ordered 20 more underground "V-cars" from Siemens Austria in a 191-million-Euro deal.

The agency said the cars would be delivered between 2012 and 2017 and all of them would be produced at Siemens’ facility in Vienna-Simmering.

The Vienna underground network covers 70 kilometres and has 85 stations. It is used by 500 million people annually.
