Pensioner drowns in 20 centimetres of water

A pensioner drowned in just 20 centimetres of water after he got stuck head first in a drainage ditch.

The 69-year-old man’s wife found his lifeless body stuck head-down in the muddy ditch near their flat in Lower Austria’s St. Pölten yesterday (Weds).

Police said the man fell into the ditch, which was 1.3 metres deep and 60 centimetres in diameter, as he tried to clean it.
