Hiker suffered heart attack, autopsy shows

By Thomas Hochwarter

A 47-year-old Salzburg man who died while hiking in Styria was killed by a heart attack, an autopsy has revealed.

Police in Styria said today (Mon) the man’s dead body was found on Friday at the Pfaffensattel mountain which lies between the districts of Mürzzuschlag and Weiz. He had left marked trails as he hiked.

An autopsy was ordered after an examination revealed head injuries, which were shown to have come from the fall.

Meanwhile mystery surrounds the cause of a German hiker’s death. The 30-year-old from Lindau, Bavaria, died on a trip near Tschagguns, Vorarlberg, last weekend.

Local officials said the man was found dead after he and a female friend slipped and fell in the dark. The woman told police she found her friend dead straight after the fall, but doctors examining his corpse said they found no trace of external injuries.
Prosecutors have ordered an autopsy.
