A wheelchair-bound pensioner died when she fell into a freezing river, police in Upper Austria said today (Fri).
The 80-year-old woman's body was discovered in the Traun near Bad Ischl in the province’s Gmunden district yesterday – one kilometre from where she had fallen in, police said.
Local fire brigade and police dog squads had started a search after a passerby found an electric wheelchair in the water close to the embankment.
Officials – who said the woman had been killed by a combination of the water’s freezing temperature and the Traun’s riptide – are investigating.
