Worker almost buried alive

Quick-thinking builders saved a co-worker when he fell into a pit and was covered in sand in Upper Austria yesterday (Mon).

The 45-year-old had been on the edge of a pit checking machinery at a construction site in Ranshofen in the province’s Braunau district when he slipped.

He plunged into the sand and sank down into it until his entire face was covered.

But he was saved when two nearby workers saw what had happened and dug enough sand out down to his chest so he could breathe.

Fire fighters later pulled him out of the pit.
