ÖVP MEP wants Strasbourg parliament to shut down

People’s Party (ÖVP) Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Ernst Strasser has called for the parliament’s Strasbourg base to be shut down to cut costs.

The People’s Party MEP today (Tues) claimed the move could cut around 200 million Euros.

Strasbourg is the parliament’s secondary meeting venue after Brussels.

"This ‘travelling circus’ is not just an incredible logistic effort, but also a massive cost factor," the former Interior Minister – who began representing the ÖVP in the European Parliament this year – said.
