Vorarlberg hit by bad weather

By Lisa Chapman

Strong storms left a trail of destruction in Vorarlberg yesterday (Weds) as streets were closed, basements flooded and power cut off to homes.

Fire department officials said today 145 firemen had been called out around Feldkirch and Dornbirn with 140 calls for help between 5pm and 6pm.

Downed trees and lightning caused widespread electricity outages in the Bregenzerwald and areas around Dornbirn, Hohenems, Übersaxen, Laterns and Montafon.

Officials said no one had been injured by the storm.

The storms come just days after Anneliese D., 61, from Köflach in Voitsberg, Styria, drowned in her own basement when in a flash flood.
