Spindelegger calls for Iceland and Croatia to join EU together

By Lisa Chapman

Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger called today (Mon) for the simultaneous accession of Iceland and Croatia to the European Union (EU).

Spindelegger said during an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels that the EU should not open its doors to Iceland and discriminate against western Balkan countries.

He said Austria also wanted Albania to forge closer relations with the EU.
