Prosecutors confused activists with mafia, say Greens
The Green Party lambasted State Prosecutors on Friday over the arrest of ten animal protection activists ten days ago.
The party branded State Prosecutors' actions a, "flagrant misuse of authority," claiming that searches of activist’s homes 'over-reached' their bounds and the evidence that has been produced is shockingly poor.
Members of Parliament Peter Pilz and Brigid Weinzinger called for the release of the activists on Friday.
The activists are accused of belonging to a criminal organization responsible for vandalism, arson, and threats against businesses.
Pilz said, "The prosecutors have obviously confused animal rights activists with the Russian Mafia."
The Greens asked Interior Minister Günther Platter, of the conservative People’s Party (ÖVP) about the investigation, however, Weinzinger said, "He refused to provide answers."
