Human chain passersby save teenager from drowning

By Thomas Hochwarter

Alert passers-by have rescued a man from drowning after forming a human chain.

More than 40 people united to save the 19-year-old who fell into the Inn River in Schärding, Upper Austria, last night (Thurs). The passerby formed a human chain after a woman made them aware of the incident. They backed each other and managed to drag the man out of the water over a steep embankment.

The man, meanwhile hypothermic and not receptive, was rushed to the local clinic after an ambulance team acted out first aid measures at site. Doctors said his condition was stable.
