Salzburg rejects Italian dumping price for ski holidays

Salzburg rejects Italian dumping price for ski holidays

Tourism officials in Salzburg have criticised an offer in neighbouring Italy that includes four days skiing including hotel and meals for just 266 euros.

Salzburg province tourism boss Leo Bauernberger said that the offer from the Trentino region in south Tirol gives the wrong signal at the start of the season.

The Italian offer also includes sauna and a Turkish bath as well as a free bus to the ski resort for the period leading up to Christmas.

But the Salzburg tourism boss says that such an aggressive price reduction is a bad idea and they won't be following.

The Italians said that the offer was to help families and poorer people enjoy skiing but in Salzburg there is a special regional fund available totalling 150,000 euros to help children from poorer families attend ski courses.

And he said that one single card was now available that covered the entire Ski Amadé region that also could not be rivalled by the Italians. There were also many other ski deals available in Austria such as teenager tickets special reductions on Saturdays for youngsters.
