Salzburg heading for unemplyment problems says AK

Salzburg heading for unemplyment problems says AK

The Chamber of Labour in Salzburg (AK) says that unemployment in Salzburg is at an almost record level despite the fact that the economy is doing well, and says the impact of this problem will start to make itself felt next year.

The AK said that politicians should not try to downplay the statistics and should accept the situation, and take action to correct it.

They highlighted the example of the Liebherr factory in Bischofshofen that has put staff on part-time work and also the fact that SAG has ended the jobs of 25 staff.

The chamber's president Siegfried Pichler also says that the current employment opportunities are a disadvantage to employees.

He said: "In the current working situation with regards to civil servants less than 50% have full all year round jobs, by which I mean a 40-hours-a-week job for the whole year."

He said that the majority of those employed privately were also only part-time or worked in periods where they were on and off work. He said there should be investment in education and also urged more building projects.
