The Austrian Times Group (ATG) is launching a new project this year to increase coverage of Austria with regards to its international links.
The ATG media group - that launched in 2005 with the first online newspaper www.austriantimes.at - now runs a dozen English language news portals focusing on Austria that notch up more than two million unique visitors a month.
Editor David Rogers said: "Last year was an important year for us in reaching two million unique visitors a month across our Austrian news portfolio. Over 50 per cent of our readers are living abroad but are interested in Austria mostly for tourism or business, and as a reflection of that this year we want to further strengthen our position by making closer ties with the embassies and international organisations here in Vienna.
"We are planning to start by becoming the official media partner for a new diplomatic initiative taking place in Vienna this week.
"We have invited a small number of embassy and consular officials to discuss exactly how we can work together to expand our news coverage, and so far the feedback is overwhelmingly positive."
The event is also intended as a networking and social event.
Staff from more than 20 different embassies attended the first diplomatic evening organised together with the ATG at the Radisson Blu Style Hotel in Vienna's first district last month.
Rogers added: "It was intended as a low key affair to test the water and as a result of this initial first meeting we are now promoting the second event with a special focus on international media coverage.
"After the success of the initial event, the second diplomatic evening will be taking place this week in a larger venue at Palais Coburg."
Rogers added that the expansion of coverage of Austria and its international relations reflected the papers leading position as the main foreign language news wire, and was part of a three-fold expansion strategy for 2012.
He said: "We are also strengthening our position with our hyper local news, adding to the local editions we have in Salzburg and Vienna with other regional editions. Secondly we also want to strengthen our events and tourism coverage with a number of new projects that in beta testing have been well received - and are due to be launched next month."
Embassy and consular officials that have questions or would like to attend and have not had an invite should email here.
Entrance is for Embassy and consular officials only.
