Billa owner signs Joschka Fischer

Joschka Fischer is to counsel Rewe Group, the German supermarket chain which dominates the Austrian market with its subsidy Billa.

The former German Greens foreign minister already works for German energy supplier RWE, car maker BMW, IT firm Siemens and Austrian oil and gas company OMV.

Now Rewe Group boss Alain Caparros said Fischer will provide it with his estimations considering social and environment issues.

Rewe Group owns Austria-based Rewe International AG which manages Billa, discounter Penny Markt, drugstore Bipa and megastore chain Merkur as well as the German firm’s operation in eight Central European countries.

Rewe Group’s turnover edged up by 2.7 per cent from 2008 to 2009 to 50.9 billion Euros.
