Ottakringer turnover bubbles over

Ottakringer Brauerei AG, one of Europe’s biggest beverage makers, doubled its turnover in the first six months of this year.

The Vienna-based company said its turnover soared from 40.3 to 80.4 million Euros from the first half of 2009 to the same time span this year.

Ottakringer – which sponsors Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna – stressed around half of the achieved turnover was acquired by mineral water company Vöslauer Mineralwasser AG which merged with Ottakringer last year.

Ottakringer said demand for beer improved this year after a dramatic year on year decline in 2009 – which followed strong demand in 2008 when Austria and Switzerland teamed up to co-host the European Football Championship.

The company, which has 368 employees, added domestic demand for mineral water had edged up as well so far this year.

Ottakringer has managed to increase its popularity with extraordinary advertising initiatives over the past few years, while Vöslauer hit the headlines last year by signing British model Agyness Deyn for a series of posters and TV commercials.
