Piatnik ahead of the game in 2009

Playing card and board game producer Piatnik reported yesterday (Thurs) that it had had a five per cent increase in turnover year on year to 26 million Euros in 2009.

The family firm said 80 per cent of its turnover had derived from abroad, where it has had subsidiaries for many years in the USA, Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

The firm added that the value of its orders had increased last year although it did not provide any figures and said it expected to have even better results this year, especially in the sector of quiz and communication games.

Firm chief Dieter Strehl claimed there was currently a trend away from electronic games to board and card games.

The firm said it was selling 10,000 board games, 100,000 decks of playing cards and 4,000 puzzles daily in 60 countries around the world.
