Viennese economy has high hopes for New Year's Eve

Viennese businessmen are hoping for a 45-million-Euro turnover on New Year’s Eve.

Vienna Economy Chamber (WKW) chief Brigitte Jank said businesses were bracing themselves for a slight decline in turnover on the same night last year.

"Overall, we expect a turnover of 45 million Euros in Vienna," Jank said today (Mon).

The WKW head said hotels had reported "excellent" booking figures for the turn of the year.

Jank said Germans would make up the majority of guests New Year’s Eve in the Austrian capital, followed by Austrians, Italians and Americans.

The news follows a recent WKW poll revealing that one in two Vienna residents buy lucky New Year charms for to give to family and friends.
