Gebrüder Weiss takes over Serbian competitor

By Thomas Hochwarter

Vorarlberg freight firm Gebrüder Weiss has taken over Serbian competitor Eurocargo, it emerged today (Mon).

The Lauterach-based company said it had a 75 per cent stake in the firm as of 12 November.

Gebrüder Weiss chairman Wolfgang Niessner said the deal highlighted the firm’s aim to become a force in the CEE region. Niessner did not say how much his company invested in the acquisition.

Niessner said Eurocargo employed around 100 people, adding the firm had a turnover of 7.5 million Euros in 2008.

Gebrüder Weiss has around 4,500 employees at 137 branches all over the world. It had a turnover of 985 million Euros in 2008.
