Kika/Leiner continues eastern expansion as new Russian store opens

By Thomas Hochwarter

Austrian furniture chain kika/Leiner has said today (Fri) it was planning further expansion in Russia as it opened a new store opened in the country.

The shop in Samara, which was opened yesterday, is kika/Leiner’s second branch in Russia.

Kika/Leiner – which runs 32 stores in Austria and 17 in Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Serbia – praised the city by the Volga River for "perfect settings for being a successful location".

The 9,000-square-metre new shop was part of a shopping centre located at one of the city’s busiest roads.

Company bosses have also revealed plans to open a store in Tel Aviv, Israel, by the end of next year.

Kika/Leiner – which has around 8,000 employees – had a turnover of 1.265 billion Euros in the 2008/09 business year.
