Rude Nurses Brought Down to Earth

Rude nurses in southern China have been brought down to earth - after hospital officials hired air hostesses to show them how to be more caring to patients.

The clinic in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, was horrified by the number of patients complaining that their nursing staff are rude and insulting.

"We were worried that they had forgotten that the patients are the important people in a hospital, not the medical staff," said a spokesman.

"Everyone knows that air stewardesses have the best manners in the world so we asked them to come and give our nurses some lessons," they added.

Nurses were taught how to greet patients politely, pay attention to them, clear up around them and even how to stand and sit properly.

But the lessons haven't found favour with many of the nurses.

"We're not stewardesses and we can't behave like them. While they're busy being graceful patients would be dying one after the other in casualty," said one.
