Keysy Prey For Thieves

Angry drivers besieged a Hyundai factory in southern China demanding compensation after the firm's most popular model was revealed to be the easiest car to steal in the country.

Official figures show that 120 brand new Verna saloons - only available in Asia - were pinched last year because the model has no security chip in its engine management system.

And more than 50 motorists who lost their cars picketed the factory to demand a refund for their lost cars, which have a showroom value of 8,000 GBP.

"They are expensive cars but they have cheated us on the security. A child could steal one of these and I want my money back," said one.

Other drivers sparked by the backlash want to sell their cars back to Beijing-Hyundai in Chengdu, Sichuan province, saying they were duped into buying them.

Another victim Lou Peng said: "The thief who stole my car was caught on CCTV and it took him less than three minutes to get into it and start it."

"My insurers refused to pay out saying it must have been my fault. Now I know the factory was to blame," he added.
