Fleet of Foot - Gypsy Benefit Claimant had 500 Cars She rented to the Mafia

A Romanian woman has been arrested after police in Italy discovered she had more than 500 top of the range vehicles registered in her name – and was renting them out to local Mafia for criminal activities.

But even more amazing is the fact that the Italian police failed to identify the Mafia fleet car boss Violeta Bonescu, 35, even though she openly advertised on the Internet and through social networking using her own name, despite the fact that Romanian media said she was claiming social benefits.

Police have now moved to seize the cars that are worth over 4 million GBP including top of the range high speed Mercedes and BMWs with tinted windows, bullet-proof glass, navigation devices and radar warning systems, and admit that the woman had slipped under their radar even though she was only earning 500 euros a month according to her tax returns.

Officials found that the fleet car hire firm business had been organised by Romanian gypsies from the village of Bocsa who rented to criminals working in prostitution and human trafficking.

The business was so successful that it ended up renting out vehicles to criminals not just in Italy but also all over Eastern Europe, and even more recently in Northern Africa.

According to officials the woman reportedly set up the business despite numerous convictions for fraud and forgery. It had its headquarters in the Italian city of Genova.
