Crock Shock

A dad watched on in horror as a monster crocodile gulped down his 12-year-old son alive while he went to get a drink from a river in a wildlife sanctuary in central India.

Schoolboy Imran Khan had stopped by the river at Barhi village in the Chambal Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh when the giant croc leapt up from the water and swallowed him up to his waist.

His father Hafeez Khan told police: "The crocodile was dragging him into the river. I tried to stop him but he was too fast and strong."

Police believe the beast was up to 20ft long and would have weighed more than a ton.

"The boy's father and some railway employees working nearby tried to save him. But the crocodile dragged the child underwater," said a police spokesman.

Locals have complained that there are already too many crocodiles - a protected species - in the area with one count showing they totalled 500.
