Kill the Messager

Bungling Mafia hitmen have confessed to gunning down the wrong victim after they misread a text message identifying their target.

The two assassins - now in jail in Naples, Italy - had been parked outside an apartment block waiting for a message from a woman inside the building telling them their target was on his way out.

But when they received a completely different SMS, they didn't bother to read it and just shot the first man who emerged from the front door, killing innocent Pasquale Romano, 30.

"Their intended victim was a member of a rival Mafia clan but the man they killed had no connection to organised crime at all," said a police spokesman.

"They were unapologetic but were embarrassed that they had been so sloppy," they added.
