A Million Cant Buy You Love

In mega-weathly China, even being a plain-old millionaire, isn't enough to guarantee you getting a bride of your choice any more.

Organisers of millionaires' marriage fairs - where would be brides go to meet wealthy husbands - have reported an astonishing drop in numbers of applicants as Chinese women become more choosy.

One held in super-city Wuhan, central China, managed to attract just 169 girls, where figures of up to 2,000 applicants used to be common.

"It really surprised us but I suppose as people in China become more used to money and rich people, they'll also become more selective. Being a millionaire isn't what it used to be," said one organiser.

China now has more than 10 per cent of the world's billionaires and people are less easily impressed by more every day riches.

"I find these businessmen who think they can buy a bride a bit creepy.

"Sure I'd like a rich husband but I'd like him to be very rich and I'd like to love him," said one critic.
