10M GBP Slip Up

Town Hall officials are facing a 10 million GBP compensation bill from residents who say they were injured slipping over when freak weather conditions covered a Mediterranean town in eight inches of snow.

More than 700 locals in Split, Croatia, are suing civic leaders claiming they suffered injuries because the city council failed to clear away the snow.

Insurers say the average claim of 15,000 GBP per person will push the legal bill over 10 million GBP.

The sea-side resort's defiant mayor Zeljko Kerum said: "They should have taken more care and worn sensible boots. It would be funny if it wasn't such a huge sum of money."
