Railroaded
Red-faced museum officials at the German Museum of Technology in Berlin have called in police after admitting two huge locomotives and one carriage had been stolen.
The engines on loan to the museum and been stored outside and were waiting to be collected by the owner.
So when an unidentified man turned up on October 27 and claimed to be the owner, the Deutsches Technikmuseum handed over the keys – and the two engines were driven off onto a local railway.
When the real owner turned up to collect his engines a few days later he was told: "Sorry – we have already handed them over."
The two engines and the carriage were last seen being driven off on a train track into the neighbouring state of Brandenburg.
German police say they have currently no leads to go on and are appealing for witnesses.
