Double Trouble

Here's looking at you blue eyes.

These panther babies are clearly the apple of their parent's eyes - so much so that even dad is being allowed to have a hand in raising them.

Their panther dad Bromo is so besotted with the pair that he is often the one left with baby duty - something that is absolutely not normal in the wild.

A zoo spokesman said: "Panthers are usually very solitary -- especially when the female has had young - she will almost always raise her cubs exclusively herself and alone. Something like this where both parents happily care for the young is very unusual and doesn't exist in the wild.

"The twin female panther cubs - Baturgai and Ormilia - were born at the beginning of July and have only now gone on public display in an outer enclosure at the Berlin Zoo.

Dad Bromo, born in 2005 at the Wuppertal Zoo, and Angie, born in 1998 at the Berlin Zoo, seem quite happy to share looking after the baby.

Black panthers are a coloured variant of leopards, the big cats with the widest range. They can be found from West Africa through the Arabian peninsula to Southeast Asia and north to eastern Siberia.
