Birds Eye

No, it's not the latest in frozen foods from Birds Eye.

This little victim of Europe's big chill was discovered frozen solid in a blocked drainpipe in Lutemberg, Switzerland, after being pushed out the top by frost.

The bird - believed to be a Blue Tit - is preserved in every detail despite apparently being stuck in the ice for the whole winter.

"I was breaking some of the icicles off the house and I was shocked when I saw the bird deep in the ice," said homeowner Kevin Durecek.

The bird, which is believed to have flown into the drainpipe to escape the cold, froze to death after it was covered with icy water.

The expanding ice then pushed the frozen bird out of the pipe still encased in its icy tomb at Lutenberg in Switzerland.

Shocked home owner Kevin Durecek said: "I wanted to break the icicle off and was shocked when I saw the frozen bird.

"I didn't break it off in the end -- I left it. Perhaps the cat will fancy it as an ice lolly."
