Man mountain Stelian Jurca has set himself a big target - to raise 15,000 GBP for surgeons to fit him with a slimming gastric band.

Jurca - who tips the scales at more than 55 stone - cannot walk or even breathe properly because of his incredible bulk.

But health authorities in Bucharest, Romania, say the 47-year-old former security guard doesn't qualify as disabled and cannot have the op done for free.

Now desperate Jurca - who is 15 stone lighter than the world's heaviest man Paul Mason from Ipswich - has launched an appeal to raise the cash.

"I will promote anything, advertise any product or do any TV show. There must be some way to raise the fees," he said.
