Flying squad

Police have caged a multi-million pound cock fighting syndicate where mutilated robo-roosters fought to the death.

The gang - based in Castellon, Spain - surgically enhanced the cockerels by removing their combs so they could fit vicious fighting helmets with spiked or bladed attachments.

Animal welfare specialists and police found a series of cock-pits, in-house bookmakers and tiered seating just like a real stadium.

They confiscated more than 50,000 GBP in cash and believe the 16-strong gang - now in custody awaiting trial - were making hundreds of thousands of pounds each month from the illegal fights.
