Frosty reception from captive audience

Speakers at a green energy rally in the German capital Berlin had a cold reception from the crowd after environmental protesters built 750 snowmen to make a statement against global warming.

Around 2,500 people plus the 750 snowmen participated in the demonstration on Schlossplatz in the German capital - that included readings and discussions about climate change.

The idea for the snowmen which took three days to build came from Berlin-based artist Ralf Schmerberg and was sponsored by the nation's second-largest supplier of green electricity, ENTEGA.

ENTEGA spokesperson Holger Mayer said: "With the snowman demo we hoped to stimulate awareness of climate change and sustainability in creative and unconventional ways."

And he added that at least there was a captive audience for speakers - even if the reception was a bit frosty.
