A Bollywood director dubbed India's Quentin Tarantino has been attacked for stringing up gory dummies of corpses on his latest billboards.

Controversial Ram Gopal Varma staged the stunt to promote his latest movie 'The Unknown' and provoked a flood of calls to police from witnesses who thought they'd discovered a gangster bloodbath in Mumbai.

"It was bloody bad taste," said one shocked witness.
