Gerhard Dörfler has been chosen by the provincial BZÖ as new Carinthian governor to succeed Jörg Haider, who died in an automobile accident last weekend.
The BZÖ's executive committee in Carinthia chose Dörfler, until now first deputy governor, as Haider’s successor as governor of the southern province.
Dörfler, a former manager of the Villacher and Schleppe brewery, became acting governor after Haider's death. He must be confirmed as new governor by the provincial parliament within three month.
While Dörfler succeeds Haider as Carinthian governor, Haider’s personal assistant Stefan Petzner has become the BZÖ’s new federal head.
Carinthia will see provincial elections next year.
