Jörg Haider death conspiracy

As the news of Jörg Haider's death sinks in the first doubts and conspiracy theories are beginning to emerge.

Experts say there appears to be no trace Haider tried to avoid the crash once he lost control of his car. Head technician with the Austrian Automobile association ÖAMTC Max Lang said:

"With crashes like this one there are usually traces of how the driver tried to avoid crashing by steering away from the point of impact to rectify their mistake. Nothing of that can be seen here though.

"I don't think you can explain the accident just with excessive speed."

Austrian daily Heute spoke to numerous residents at the scene of the accident that said they found the crash "mysterious". One unnamed person is quoted as saying: "The doors were torn off. Such a thing never happens at a crash."

Internet threads are discussing the possibility Haider was assassinated. Some bloggers claim Israel's Mossad intelligence agency killed the far-right politician - a claim based on an article in British daily The Times three years ago in which former FPÖ secretary-general Peter Sichrovksy admitted being a Mossad informant during Haider's spell as leader of the party.

The car will be checked one more time by experts.
