A theatre version of Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar international hit "All About my Mother" will be staged in Vienna, it was revealed today (Thurs).

The play "Alles über meine Mutter", based on the 1999 movie "Todo sobre mi madre" (All About my Mother), will premiere at Vienna’s Volkstheater from 11 September.

"All About my Mother", which will be staged in German for the first time, tells the story of of 18-year-old Esteban who starts looking for his biological father after the death of his mother in a car crash. On the way he meets transvestite Agrado, actress Huma Rojo and pregnant nun Rosa.

The original English stage version played to packed houses at London’s Old Vic theatre.

Veteran Volkstheater stars Maria Bill and Vera Borek will perform in the Viennese adaption. The cast will also feature Johanna Mertinz, Marcello de Nardo and Andrea Bröderbauer.
