Sankt Pölten police chief Johann Schadwasser announced this week the police presence at the trial of sex monster Josef Fritzl at the town’s court had cost 36,000 Euros.
Schadwasser said approximately 25 officers had been on duty at the court at all times. Apart from ensuring security in and outside the building, the cops also regulated traffic in the area to avoid chaos.
Schadwasser said there had been "no special incidents" during the police action, which had already started on Saturday of the week before the trial took place. He added the trial week had gone by "very quietly". Schadwasser admitted his team had feared things would be "much more dramatic."
Schadwasser said there had been "no potential conflict whatsoever" and lauded the "discipline of reporters."
Josef Fritzl, 74, was given a life sentence last week for imprisoning his daughter Elisabeth in a dungeon under the family home in the Lower Austrian town of Amstetten for 24 years and fathering seven children with her. One of the new-borns died due to breathing complications.
