Parts of Austria have seen more than two meters of snow in the last two weeks.
The Central Agency for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Vienna said today (Mon) Lunz am See in Lower Austria had received 2.14 metres of new snow since 8 February, of which 1.40 was still on the ground. The most amount of ground snow ever recorded for that period was 1.88 metres.
ZAMG said Bad Aussee in Styria had had 2.07 metres of new snow, 1.35 of which was still on the ground. The record is 1.90 metres.
Mariazell in Styria, ZAMG added, had 1.88 metres of new snow, of which 1.35 was still on the ground. The record is 1.80 metres.
The situation is far different in Vienna, where there were 17 centimetres of snow on the ground yesterday before rising temperatures caused it to begin to melt. The record for the date is 50 centimetres, set back in 1941.
