The Austrian release of the video accompanying Robbie Williams’ comeback single "Bodies" has been overshadowed by plagiarism accusations by fans of a singer dubbed Austria’s only real pop star.
The new video shows the British superstar walking around and posing on wrecked airplanes at a deserted airport – a striking similarity to a video shot by late Austrian singer Falco 25 years ago.
Falco – who was born as Johann Hölzel – performed at the same setting for a 1984 TV show called "Hoch wie nie", which was also the title of a song in his hit album "Junge Römer" of the same year.
Austrian fans of Falco, who died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic in 1998, are currently holding furious debates in online forums over the similarities of the videos.
"Bodies" is the first single in Robbie Williams’ upcoming comeback album "Reality Killed the Video Star," which will be released later this year.
Falco was loved and loathed for his self-aggrandising attitude and his self-destructive lifestyle. A street in Vienna-Donaustadt was renamed "Falcogasse" to honour the singer who had hits like "Vienna Calling" and "Jeanny".
His song "Rock me Amadeus" peaked on the US Billboard charts in 1985 – something no other Austrian artist has achieved.
