Eye Hopes

Party-goer Jader Mota survived for an astonish 12 hours with an eight inch knife jammed into his eye after fleeing from a mugger on his motorbike.

These astonishing pictures show how close the razor sharp blade came to piercing his brain, which surgeons say was missed by only a fraction of an inch.

Mota, 24, had been leaving the bash in Oporapa, Colombia, when he was attacked by robber Mauricio Martinez, now facing 15 years for attempted murder.

"He hit me in the face and I fled to my motorbike. It was only while I was riding away that I felt my face and thought, 'My God what is this stuck in me?' said Mota.

The reveller spent 12 hours being ferried from one hospital to another by paramedics before finding surgeons who agreed to tackle the op.

"I've lost the sight of one eye but I'm just lucky to be alive," said Mota.
