Scandal fears as nude dance show rolls into Vienna

Vienna can brace itself for a new culture scandal as a show featuring nude dancers will be performed at the city later this month, Austrian media warn.

The show, called "La Pornographie des Ames", by award-winning Canadian choreographer Dave St-Pierre, features dozens of naked female and male dancers prancing in blonde wigs and make-up.

Newspapers already speculate the performances – which will take part at the Tanzquartier from 9 to 13 March – will spark public outrage as the installation of a swingers’ club at the Secession gallery did. And earlier this month, a bar in the shape of a female torso was put on display at the city’s Museumsquartier complex.

Walter Heun, director of the Tanzquartier since autumn, meanwhile said he hoped audience numbers would continue to increase. Around 23,000 people came to see performances last year, he said.
