Hopeless Hippo

Zoo keepers have sent out an appeal to help find a boyfriend for lonely Hippo Mimi after her partner died and she developed an unhealthy fondness for her keepers.

Roberto Anderlini at Rome Zoo said: "She was moping around and depressed after her hippo boyfriend Carlo passed away, but then all of a sudden she started to follow her keepers around and we are worried she is forgetting she's a hippo.

"If we leave it too late she might reject another partner. The couple had been together since 1981 and were always by each others' side.

"Now we need to find a new lover to bring her back to her happy hippo self. It's not healthy for her to start getting fixed on her keepers."
